Make Space Before You React

Not every situation needs an instant response.

When someone says something that upsets you, it’s easy to react without thinking. But taking one or two deep breaths creates a small gap between what happens and how you respond.

Picture a disagreement at work. Someone criticizes your idea, and your first instinct is to defend yourself. Instead, you pause and take a slow breath. That tiny pause gives you enough space to think clearly. You might ask a question instead of arguing, and the conversation becomes much more productive.

A few deeper breaths won’t solve every problem, but they can help you approach problems with a calmer mind. And very often, a calmer mind makes better decisions.
